Precision Vector Layout Preparation
Bridging the gap between creative vision and machine execution through technical CAD optimisation. We transform your sketches, PDFs, and raster images into production-ready vector files that guarantee millimetre-perfect results on CO2 and Fiber laser systems.
The success of any laser project is decided long before the machine is powered on. A laser cutter does not "see" an image; it follows a mathematical path defined by vectors. If a line is doubled, if a path is open, or if the scale is slightly off, the result is wasted material and lost time. Professional layout preparation is the process of cleaning, scaling, and organising these paths to ensure the laser head moves with absolute efficiency and precision.
At Tokuqiquxusholdings, we specialise in the technical translation of design. Whether you are an architect needing precise acrylic components or a small business owner wanting a clean logo for leather engraving, our layout service eliminates the guesswork. We don't just trace your image; we engineer the file, considering the kerf (the width of the laser cut) and the specific physical properties of your chosen material to ensure the final piece fits together perfectly.
Our Technical Workflow
File Audit & Analysis
We review your provided assets—whether they are hand-drawn sketches, JPGs, or rough PDFs—to determine a suitable path for vectorisation and check for geometric viability.
Vector Reconstruction
Using professional CAD software, we redraw your design using clean Bézier curves, ensuring every path is closed and there are no redundant overlapping lines.
Production Optimisation
We assign specific colours to different laser operations (e.g., red for cutting, blue for engraving) and arrange parts to minimise material waste (nesting).
Final Validation & Export
A final check against your dimensions is performed. Once approved, we export the file in the industry-standard format required for our laser systems.
Who Needs Professional Layout Services?
Many clients come to us with a clear vision but lack the technical software or knowledge to create a "machine-readable" file. This service is essential for:
- Artists and Crafters: Those who design by hand or use raster-based software (like Procreate or basic Photoshop) and need their art converted to paths.
- Small Business Owners: Entrepreneurs who have a logo but only possess it in low-resolution formats, making it unsuitable for crisp engraving.
- Architects and Industrial Designers: Professionals requiring high-precision prototypes in acrylic or plywood where tolerances are measured in fractions of a millimetre.
- Event Planners: Those creating bespoke decor or signage where complex geometric patterns must be perfectly symmetrical.
How the Process Works
Our collaboration begins with a detailed brief. You provide the visual reference and the exact dimensions required for the final product. If you are unsure about the scale, we can provide guidance based on the intended use of the item. We then move into the drafting phase, where our lead designer, Sophie King, ensures that the design is not only aesthetically pleasing but technically sound for the specific laser (CO2 or Fiber) being used.
Communication is key during this phase. For complex projects, we provide a digital proof. This proof allows you to verify the placement of engravings and the boundaries of the cuts. We do not proceed to the actual laser cutting until the vector layout is formally signed off by the client, preventing costly errors during production.
What You Should Prepare
To speed up the process and reduce the hours required for design, we recommend preparing the following:
- Clear References: High-resolution photos or scans of your sketches.
- Exact Dimensions: Width and height in millimetres (mm). Please avoid using inches to prevent conversion errors.
- Material Intent: Tell us if the piece will be 3mm plywood or 5mm acrylic, as this affects how we handle the "kerf" (the material removed by the laser).
- Font Names: If your design includes text, provide the exact font name or the original .ttf/.otf file.
Deliverables: What You Receive
Upon completion and full payment of the design fee, you receive a comprehensive digital package. This includes the finalised vector file (typically in .DXF, .SVG, or .AI format) which is ready for immediate production. If the layout was prepared specifically for a project we are also executing, the file is archived in our system for future reprints, ensuring total consistency across multiple orders.
Additionally, you receive a production map—a visual guide showing how the parts are nested on the material sheet, which is particularly useful for those managing their own material inventory.
Turnaround Times
Layout preparation typically takes between 1 to 3 business days depending on the complexity of the geometry. Simple logo vectorisation can often be completed within 24 hours. For highly complex architectural components or large-scale nesting projects, we provide a specific timeline during the initial quote. Please note that the overall production turnaround (usually 3-5 business days) begins only after the layout is approved.
What Is Not Included
It is important to clarify the boundaries of our layout service to manage expectations. We provide technical preparation, not conceptual brand identity design. The following are not included in the Layout Preparation service:
- Creative Concepting: We do not "invent" logos or designs from scratch; we translate existing ideas into vectors.
- Copyright Clearance: We do not provide legal checks for trademarks. The client must own the rights to the imagery provided.
- Complex 3D Modelling: We provide 2D vector paths for laser cutting; we do not provide 3D STL files for printing.
- Unlimited Revisions: Our standard fee includes two rounds of minor adjustments. Significant changes to the original brief will incur additional hourly charges.
Pricing and GST
Our layout services are billed on an hourly basis to ensure fairness regardless of the project's complexity. The rate is applied to the actual time spent by our design team. In accordance with Australian tax law, all prices are listed with the 10% Goods and Services Tax (GST) included. For B2B clients who are registered for GST, the tax component can be claimed back as an input tax credit.
For very small adjustments (under 15 minutes), we may waive the fee if the layout is part of a larger production order. However, for standalone file preparation, the minimum order value of A$45 applies.
Service Inclusions
- Conversion of raster images (JPG, PNG) to clean vector paths.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why can't I just use a high-resolution JPG?
Laser cutters operate on vector paths (mathematical lines) rather than pixels. A JPG, regardless of resolution, consists of dots. If we simply "imported" a JPG, the laser would either try to engrave every single pixel (which takes hours and often looks blurry) or fail to find a path to follow for cutting. Vectors allow the laser to move smoothly and precisely.
Do you provide the source files after the work is done?
Yes. Once the design fee is paid in full, we provide the vector file in a format of your choice (SVG, DXF, or AI). You then own the production file and can use it for future orders with us or elsewhere.
What happens if my file is already a vector but "messy"?
Many "vector" files created in non-CAD software contain thousands of tiny segments or overlapping lines. This causes the laser to "stutter" or cut the same line twice, which can burn the material. Our layout service cleans these paths, turning them into single, continuous lines for a professional finish.
Can you help me choose the right material for my layout?
Absolutely. Part of our layout process involves advising on material thickness and type. For more detailed information, we recommend reading our guide on choosing the right material.
